Product Description:
Plotting Made Simple, from the Plot Whisperer. When it comes to writing bestsellers, it's all about the plot. Plot is where most writers fall down - and they have no idea how to get back up. But with "The Plot Whisperer", celebrated writing teacher and author Martha Alderson shows writers how to breathe life into the most moribund of stories - one scene at a time. Alderson provides a plotting primer that's as easy to implement as it is to understand. With this foolproof system, writers of all genres can learn to devise a successful storyline that: tells the story in the best way; builds suspense; incorporates effective sub-plots; ties up all the loose ends; and, keeps the reader turning pages. "The Plot Whisperer" is the ultimate guide to writing page turners that sell.

About the Author:
Martha Alderson has worked with hundreds of writers in plot workshops, retreats, and plot consultations for more than fifteen years. Her clients include best-selling authors, New York editors, and Hollywood movie directors.

and my thoughts on rejection:

Here's my final word on rejection---after enduring years on my own writing and a year on behalf of my writers (yes, agents feel the sting of rejection much more than you all since there are few of our writers who sell their books without at least one rejection):

Write the best book you can.
No really, go back and look at it with a critical eye.
Revise some more.
One, maybe two...three, four, five more times.
And then believe.

Believe in your words. Believe in your creation. Believe in yourself.
Now get out there and submit. Rejection is part of the process.
Deal with it and move on.

Picture Book Critique w/ Literary Agent Jill Corcoran

Most of you know me for repping Chapter Books, Middle Grade and Young Adult, and that is the mainstay of my work. BUT, I am now also repping a very select list of picture book writers.

To celebrate, I am offering a Picture Book critique as part of  Vermont College of Fine Arts and Hunger Mountain's Spring fundraising auction.

Vermont College of Fine Arts is a national center for education in the arts, fostering the excellence of emerging and established artists and advancing the arts to create a more humane world. VCFA is the only graduate school in the country devoted exclusively to fine arts education, and the first independent college to form in Vermont since 1983. Offering nationally successful Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degrees in Visual Art, Writing, Writing for Children & Young Adults, Music Composition and Graphic Design, VCFA’s alumni are among the most celebrated authors and artists working today.

Hunger Mountain: the VCFA Journal of the Arts, is a non-profit literary journal published in Montpelier, Vermont. Hunger Mountain is both a print publication and an online destination for readers, writers, artists and art lovers. Our mission is to cultivate engagement with and conversation about the arts by publishing high-quality, innovative literary and visual art by both established and emerging artists, and by offering opportunities for interactivity and discourse. To learn more about Hunger Mountain, including contest and submission guidelines, visit

To read a Hunger Mountain interview with me from way back in July 2009 (when I just started agenting) please click here.

And click HERE to check out all the other fabulous critiques you can bid on.

And btw, in case you are wondering....why picture books when everyone says they don't sell....I refer you to this fabulous article in the most recent Horn Book: Why We’re Still in Love with Picture Books (Even Though They’re Supposed to Be Dead) by Allyn Johnston and Marla Frazee
