Editorial Ass: why the first page of your manuscript is so dang important
I was going to write a post about this but now I don't have to because EA sums up my thoughts, and probably the thoughts of most agents and editors, in her thoughtful post. Click and read!

I am thrilled to announce that the amazing Ralph Fletcher has sold his young adult novel AKA ROWAN POHI to Dina Stevenson at Clarion.

In AKA ROWAN POHI, Bobby Steele attends a run-down city high school. One day, on a lark, Bobby and his two best friends invent a boy named Rowan Pohi and manage to get this fictitious student accepted at the finest prep school in the city. Bobby, who feels trapped by his life at home, sees in Rowan Pohi a tempting alter-ego, and the possibility of a better life.

In this intense, funny and touching novel, Ralph captures teen boys' thoughts, dialog and motivation creating an authentic and thought-provoking read.

Ralph Fletcher is the author of numerous picture books, poetry books, memoir, middle grade, young adult, professional educator books and books on writing.

He is a rock star among teachers and librarians as well as young readers, many who have met him at one of his many school visits per year.

FYI, this is one of three books we have sold for Ralph since he has joined Herman Agency. More on that in upcoming posts:)

State of the Children’s Book Publishing Industry « Writing and Illustrating

I had a wonderful time at the SCBWI NJ conference, and hopefully will even sign a client or two. I was busy critiquing when David delivered his State of the Children’s Book Publishing Industry talk but now that Kathy has it up on her blog I wanted to share it all with you.
