POETRY FRIDAY: SWEETHEARTS DANCE

Happy Valentine's Day.

SWEETHEARTS DANCE
by Nikki Grimes

He pulls her close
She strokes his face
Their thoughts fly to
Their starting place

The Sweethearts Dance
The day they met
He still remembers
She can't forget

The music plays
Just like before
The graying sweethearts
Young once more
Whirl and dance
Across the floor.

Today's Poetry Friday is hosted by Big A, little a.

  1. My husband and I remember our first moment vividly as well, though nothing as romantic as this.

  3. Yes it was a typo, now corrected. Thank you, Douglas.

I wish I could get the lines to print out the way Nikki Grimes wrote it but try as I might this darn Blogger program will not comply.

I love this poem. It reminds me of my grandparents. I see myself still loving and whirling with my husband when we are old and gray.

  4. Sweet poem. It reminds me of my first date with my husband, which was also at a dance. We were married on Valentine's Day seven years later. :)
